This game reinforces number recognition and the concept of higher and lower numbers. Face-Off Face-Off is a classic math game known more traditionally as “war”. Materials needed: 1) Deck of cards(1-10 with Ace=1and pulling out the face cards) Instructions: To be played with two players. 1) Divide the deck in half and turn each stack of cards down in front of each player. 2) One player says, Face-Off and each player turns over a card. Which ever player has the card with the greatest number wins that round and takes both cards and places them face down at the bottom of their stack of cards. 3) Players take turns calling Face-Off and game continues. 4) If both players turn over the same number, this is then a special Face-Off. Each player takes three of their cards and keeping them face down, place them under the first card they played. Then each player takes one card and turn it over. Whichever player has the greatest number, wins all the cards. (If these cards are tied as well, the players put down three more cards, then turn one more over until one player wins.) 5)The game continues until a designated time and which ever player has the most cards wins or the game continues until one player is out of cards and the player with all the cards wins. Tic Tac ToeThis game helps with spatial reasoning, strategic planning and problem solving. Watch the video below for how to play.

*Use salt dough to create animals, people, keepsakes etc. MATERIALS NEEDED: 1 cup salt 1 cup plain flour (all purpose) NOT self-raising 1/2 cup warm water Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl and stir in the warm water. Mix vigorously until combined and then turn it out onto a floured surface and start to knead it until it becomes soft and stretchy, similar in consistency to play-dough. It shouldn’t be at all sticky or crumbly. If it is, add either a little more flour or a little more water until it is just right. Place your salt dough creation into the oven on a baking tray and leave it to dry out for approximately 3 hours on a VERY low oven temperature. I advise around 100 degrees C (approx 212 F) and no higher. The salt dough can rise and get bubbles if the oven is too high. *Play with Lego *Use tweezers or tongs to move materials *Sew use an embroidery hoop to hold a coffee filter or napkin. *Play outside picking up sticks, small rocks and others treasures that can be found. *Colour colouring pages *Draw pictures domesticsuperhero.com/best-homemade-playdough-recipe/ Being HelpfulHow can you be helpful around the house and yard? Kid PrintIn our class we focus on Kid Print. Kid Print is playing with letter sounds. It starts with hearing the beginning sound of words, moving to beginning and end sounds and later to beginning, middle and end sounds of words. Kid print focuses of the sounds children hear, not on conventional spelling. It allows children to take chances and experiment with sounds without having to worry about if it is right. Your child will come home with work using kid print, please celebrate the sounds your child has identified. For example, sky may be spelled sci. The ability to take chances using letter sounds will help your child in their literacy future. Make Grocery lists, cards, notes, label drawings using kid print! This will help us use our known letter sounds and help us learn ones we do not know. Retelling a Story Read a story to your child or watch a movie/tv show together. Have your child retell you the story and draw the story out on paper. Focus on the big events of the story using the words first and then. Responding to events/movies/storiesGo on an adventure, visit a place, watch a movie or a tv show, go on a family walk. Ask your child what was their favourite part of the movie, adventure, walk. What did they like? What did they not like. How did they feel when something happened? Was their a problem in the movie/story or on your adventure? How was the problem solved? Would you solve the problem a different way? Have your child draw their responses. Website/App to support Literacy and NumeracyLetter Sounds |
